To remove the embedded Windows 11 Home key and switch to a Windows 11 Pro key, you don’t actually delete the embedded OEM key (it’s stored in BIOS/UEFI), but you can override it by installing/activating Pro. Here’s the correct way to do it.
✅ Method 1: Upgrade from Home → Pro (No reinstall needed)
Step 1: Temporarily change to Pro edition
- Open Settings → System → Activation
- Click Change product key
- Enter this generic Pro key:
👉 This does NOT activate Windows — it just switches your edition to Windows 11 Pro.
Step 2: Enter your real Pro key
After the system changes edition:
- Go back to Settings → Activation
- Click Change product key
- Enter your actual Windows 11 Pro product key
- Activate
✅ Method 2: Using Command Prompt (advanced)
Run Command Prompt as Administrator, then:
Install your Pro key
Activate
⚠️ Important Notes
- ❗ You cannot delete the OEM Home key stored in firmware — but it becomes irrelevant once Pro is installed/activated
- ❗ If you reinstall Windows later, it may automatically install Home again because of the embedded key
👉 To force Pro during reinstall, you must:- Enter a Pro key during setup, OR
- Use a
PID.txtorei.cfgfile (advanced)
✅ If Upgrade Fails (Common Fix)
If Windows refuses to switch editions:
Run in admin Command Prompt:
Then restart and activate with your real key.
✅ Summary
- You don’t remove the embedded Home key — you override it
- Use a generic Pro key → switch edition → activate with real key
- Reinstall requires forcing Pro to avoid fallback to Home
If you want, I can also show how to force Windows 11 Pro during a clean install (USB method) 👍
